Introduction

The Art Round in Skåne is a festival dedicated to exploring the wondrous world of fungi and their net-like underground web of mycelium. The festival offers a range of activities including conversations with biologists, creative workshops, special menus, foraging workshops, musical performances, and art tours. It is an opportunity to nourish your mind and senses while immersing yourself in the beauty of nature and art.

Festival Program

All day 10 am–5 pm

Permanent Collections and Exhibitions

The park consists of around 80 permanent works both indoors and outdoors. This year’s exhibitions include Young-Jun Tak: Wish you a Lovely Sunday (video installation in the Hay Barn) and Carola Grahn: Trädgränsen (works in the sculpture park). Grab a map in the Main Barn to explore the various artworks.

The Magical World of Mushroom: drop-in creative workshop

Join artist Gurli Kruber in exploring mushrooms, plants, and your own creativity. Try making mushroom prints inspired by the shapes and colors of nature, and learn how to make pigments from mushrooms and plants. The workshop takes place in Wanås Konst Studio in the Main Barn, the pink room, and the outdoor Studio patio. Art guides will be present, and kids should be accompanied by an adult.

Mycocosm

Immerse yourself in the world of mushrooms with the work Puff Ball Field by artist Roxy Paine. Learn about the secret lives of mushrooms, their underground networks of mycelium, and their roles as decomposers. Mycocosm is located in Wanås Konst Studio in the Main Barn, the yellow room.

11 am–12.30 pm

Mushroom excursions (foraging) with Roland Rittman and Zenia Samlersen

Explore the kingdom of mushrooms with Swedish field biologist Roland Rittman or Danish mushroom enthusiast Zenia Samlersen. Let these experts guide you through the world of fungi that live among the artworks in the sculpture forest. The excursions start at different collection points and require pre-booking. Practical shoes for walking in the forest are recommended.

11 am–12 pm

Art tours in the sculpture park (Swedish and English)

Join knowledgeable guides on a unique art tour of the sculpture park. Discover how nature, weather, and animal life in the forest impact the artworks and their lifespan. Explore how nature influences our experience of the outdoor collection. Limited spots are available, so pre-booking is recommended.

12.45–2 pm

Finding Friends in Fungi: A Conversation between David Zilber and Merlin Sheldrake

Join star biologist Merlin Sheldrake, author of the bestseller “Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures,” in conversation with David Zilber, Noma’s former head of fermentation. They will delve into the fascinating world of fungi and its impact on our lives. Limited seating is available, so pre-booking is recommended.

1–2 pm

Art tours in the sculpture park

Take part in an art tour of the sculpture park and explore the relationship between nature, weather, and animal life with the artworks. Gain a new perspective on the outdoor collection. Limited spots are available, so pre-booking is recommended.

2–3.30 pm

Mushroom excursions (foraging) with Roland Rittman and Zenia Samlersen

Join Roland Rittman or Zenia Samlersen on a mushroom foraging excursion. Explore the diverse world of fungi that exist among the sculptures in the forest. The excursions require pre-booking and practical shoes for walking in the forest are recommended.

2.15–3.15 pm

Cosmo Sheldrake

Experience a unique open-air concert by musician and composer Cosmo Sheldrake. Cosmo incorporates recordings of natural sounds into his music, creating a captivating and immersive performance. The concert takes place in the sculpture park at Poul Gernes’ Pyramide. No pre-booking is necessary.

3.30–4.45 pm

Finding Friends in Fungi: A Conversation between David Zilber and Merlin Sheldrake

Join the conversation between Merlin Sheldrake and David Zilber as they continue to explore the wonders of the fungal world. Limited seating is available, so pre-booking is recommended.

6.00–7.00 pm

Hupehensis – performance by Carola Grahn in collaboration with Svanholm Singers

Experience a large-scale, interactive performance by artist Carola Grahn in collaboration with the male choir Svanholm Singers and Stephanie Hayes. The performance, titled Hupehensis, takes place in the forest behind Wanås castle. It explores themes of power, religious ceremonies, and the search for a way to live in balance with nature. The performance includes a walk through the sculpture park at dusk and requires advance booking. It is recommended for those aged 15 and above. Warm clothes and boots are recommended.

The performance is co-produced with KORO – Public Art Norway.

Tickets to the festival

The festival program consists of various events, and some have limited capacity. To ensure a spot, you can pre-purchase tickets for the events. If tickets remain on the day of the festival, they will be released for free on a first-come, first-served basis to visitors who inquire in person at the ticket desk of the shop. Wanås Konst Club members can join all activities for free and pre-book with a booking code.

Food and drink

The café at the festival serves casual food, drinks, coffee, and cake until 5:30 pm. A mushroom-themed menu has been created for the occasion in collaboration with David Zilber, offering gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Transport

Parking is included in your ticket. You can also book a round trip bus trip from Copenhagen and Malmö. If you book a bus and want to stay for Carola Grahn’s performance, taxi pooling to Hässleholm’s train station will be organized.
